Sentry research...

For tomorrow's lesson (19/11/09), write a brief statement as to the role of a sentry on the front line during WW1.

Motivation for you: the last person to post gets an extra research task.

The role of a sentry during world war 1 was to act as a guard at given spots along the front line, placed there in order to prevent unauthorised people from entering.

In world war 1 soldiers were given sentry duty. This is basically look-out duty, so a soldier will stand at the certain point e.g. trench, and stop unauthorised soldiers from making passage.

Role of the Sentry.

The sentry was mostly a job in which was given to a soldier. It involved the soldier standing in a spot and not let people in who are not authorised to be there.

The Sentry was responsible for standing guard along the front line during WWI. They would stand guard as other soldiers rested, ate, etc. They would alert the soldiers when they were under attack which was especially important as gas was silent and so soldiers wouldn't have realised.

A Sentry's role was to guard their post and to look out for anything that may harm the other soldies and warn them if there was. They also made sure that no one unauthorised entered.

Throughout WW1 many soldiers were given the job of a sebtry. This position included a person or special body of people assigned to provide protection of a military building, camp, or deployed unit. Their duty must have been taken very seriously as, if a soldier was to fall asleep whilst on the job his punishment would have been death.

Can I just LOL at Becky Boakes being first ;) :P Surprising?

A sentry was a soldier on who many other soldiers lives depended in the trenches. He was to guard the front line and act as a look out during day or night while other soldiers slept, ate etc. If they were being attacked he would signal in order for other soldiers to prepare themselves to either defend or attack back.

The role of a sentry, or "Sentry Duty", in WW1 was to stand on the fire step and watch and wait for the enemy to make a move and not let anyone into the trench who shouldn't be there, e.g. Enemy soldiers

A sentry is a guard at a gate or other point of passage. Also known as the "11 General Orders" or simply "The General Orders", the list is meant to cover any possible scenario a sentry might encounter on duty.

A sentry was a soldier during world war 1 which had a certain role so that the other soldiers could sleep, eat, etc. This role meant that the soldier had to look out for the enemy at the front line to warn about suprise attacks and unautherised soliders to get past.
